Catholic school funding wastes tax dollars

I would like to add my voice to that of Barry Kendall, and sure many others, when they express anger over York-Simcoe MPP Julia Munro’s column, which appeared in the Nov. 4 edition of The Scope. Kendall’s reaction accurately describes my feelings on the subject, and the frustration many people feel with this continued waste of public funds.

“Your party is castigating (Premier Dalton McGuinty's) government for fiscal irresponsibility and encouraging residents to provide ideas for the province's future," said Kendall, in a recent letter to the editor.

The Conservative Party asked for it. Munro, PC leader Tim Hudak and the entire caucus know the largest fiscal irresponsibility in Ontario is Catholic school funding.

Who extended Catholic school funding to grades 9 and 10? John Robarts. Who announced that it would be extended to grades 11 through 13, then jumped ship dumping the loss he knew would take place in his successor's lap? William Davis. Who gave Catholic schools a share of the local commercial and industrial tax base? Mike Harris. Until the PC's repent of their sin of favouring Catholic school funding, Hudak is no alternative to McGuinty.

Judith Congdon,
