Keeping snowmobile trailers safe for travel

The Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs say it’s important to ensure trailers are in top notch shape, and that they are operating safely.

Having the right trailer weight for sleds is very important, and the Highway Traffic Act has specific Man follows requirements when it comes to trailer towing.

While on a trailer, a snowmobile should be secure with no less than three means of attachment, to ensure it does not shift in transit or become dislodged in the event of a collision.

Make sure the trailer is plated and registered with the Ministry of Transportation. Even home built trailers have to be registered and plated.

Having the right sized and after school properly positioned side mirrors is crucial to safely trailer a snowmobile.

Mirrors are relied on for safe lane changing and keeping an eye on a snowmobile and trailer while it's being hauled.
