Chili community support
THORNTON NEWS
On Tuesday February 16, a pancake and sausage supper will be held at Trinity United Church, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Following the supper, for those who are interested, there will be a dust to ashes service in the sanctuary, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday February 11 is the next Barrie Thornton Old Time Fiddlers Night. It will be held at the Lions Hall, and admission is $3 per adult, while children enter for free. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7. All fiddlers, singers, callers, dancers and listeners are welcome to attend. Call Cec Denney for more information at 458-9996. Know how to make mean bowl of chili? Want to have some fun and help the community at the same time? Well, maybe the Community Chili Challenge, hosted by the Thornton Lions, is the place for that. The challenge will be held on Saturday March 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. Entrants must supply two crock pots of chili, and wear costumes or design a space to enhance their presentation. Entrants will be judged on their chili and their presentation. Tables and an electric hook-up will be supplied, but the entrants will need to bring their own serving utensils and table coverings. There will be room for three to four participants at each table. The Lions will be charging $5 per adult and $2 per child to taste and judge the chili, with the proceeds going to Lions Foundation projects. Each judge will be provided with a small bowl and spoon, bread and buns and a beverage. Every judge will be encouraged to visit each booth and then vote for the best chili and presentation. Anyone interested in entering a team can call Warren Baguley at 458-9358 or e-mail barbbaguley@bell.net. A blood donor clinic will be held on Thursday February 4 from 2 to 6:40 p.m. at the Angus Arena. Anyone interested in donating can call 1-888-2- DONATE to book an appointment. Every day will be filled with fun activities such as skating, crafts, bingo and dance. Two field trips are planned to Bulldog Interactive Fitness and Kempview Bowling. The cost is $20 per day, except for bus trip days, which are 25 per child. For more information, or to register, call 424-9770.
