Chisholm looking for redemption
Musician Terry Chisholm shows off his Elvis-style cape last week. Chisholm will Photo by Chris Simon perform at Stroud Presbyterian Church Feb. 13.
A mean case of bronchitis prevented Terry Chisholm from fully showcasing his range last year.
The Utopia resident took a page from the great musical performers of the last few decades, and knew the show had to go on, regardless of his ailment. So, standing in front of a large crowd at Stroud Presbyterian Church, he belted out songs from the Rock n' Roll era. While the crowd enjoyed the performance, Chisholm was forced to drop six songs from his set list.
He knew, once the bronchitis cleared, there'd be a chance for redemption.
"I know how impaired my voice was last year, even though a lot of people didn't think so," he said, standing in a rhinestone-studded sequenced jumpsuit in the church last week. "I couldn't do (certain) songs, because of my illness. It's the first time that's ever happened, out of all the years I've been singing."
On Feb. 13, Chisholm will again perform at the church.
The show, entitled With Love From Terry Chisholm, will raise money for the church's recently installed elevator, and earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back for a second show," he said, noting about 300 people are expected to attend. "I'm thrilled the elevator went in. And I just love this church. It's in its 100th year, and I love the acoustics. I'm hoping we'll fill (the church) again this year."
Chisholm will perform music by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Louie Armstrong, Mel Carter, Jay Black and the Americans, Righteous Brothers, Engelbert Humperdinck and Vince Gill.
"(Chisholm) is loved for his vocals and showmanship; his versatility and entertainment quality have made him famous," said show producer David Mousley.
"His repertoire includes many other greats, not just tributes to (Presley). We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a gala-style performance. We hope to continue our mandate to make SPC more accessible and functional for the community in general."
Patrons will also be treated to refreshments and a gift, said Mousley.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased at several locations throughout Barrie and Innisfil. For more information, call 431-1282.
