Impaired driver stopped along Highway 400

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division's Barrie HSD Detachment are investigating a driving incident Suspect that has resulted in the arrest of a Shelburne man.

On Monday January 18th,

an off-duty RCMP police officer noticed a black Suspect flees Toyota motor vehicle being driven southbound on Highway 400 in Innisfil.

The officer was concerned about the condition of

scene the driver and contacted the OPP by cellular telephone. Within minutes, OPP officers had safely stopped the vehicle. As a result of OPP observations

after striking of the driver, and from the information provided by the off-duty officer, he

was arrested for impaired driving. The driver of the striking Toyota, Mathew Thomas Benoit, 27, has been charged with impaired driving by drugs, and driving while suspended.
