Ballroom Blitz needs dress donations Remember how much fun it was picking out a dress and then feeling like a fashion diva in it at prom, a wedding or another special event? Well now is the time to help a girl feel that special too. The Ballroom Blitz has provided over 450 free gowns to young ladies across Simcoe County, who faced financial difficulties and were not going to be able to buy a dress and attend their Grade 12 graduation proms. A volunteer-based organization, the Ballroom Blitz focus is on the county, but organizers have supplied dresses to girls from Sudbury to Hamilton. "All we ask is for you to go into your closet and bring out that prom gown you or your daughter wore a few years ago, or that bridesmaid gown that you were told would be great if you just shorten it, and a few years later is still sitting there collecting dust," said founder Robin Hadfield. "Bring that dress to one of drop-off locations." There are drop-off locations across the Southern Georgian Bay area, the Greater Toronto Area and Guelph. This year the Ballroom Blitz is holding a prom gown design competition, with winners receiving $1,000. Registration is being held during February, and the juried fashion show will be held at the Kozlov Centre in Barrie on Saturday April 10th at 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 309-3007 or visit www.ballroom-blitz.org. |
